HUGO KAAGMAN  STENCIL KING
2004 Jazz Kitchen  mural, Amsterdam, NL
Jazz Kitchen Mural painting on  ceiling and wall in an Amsterdam kitchen, ( 160 - 280 cm.+ 28 tiles), September,  2004. A tribute to the jazz heroes: Louis Armstrong, Charly Haden, Bix Beiderbeche, Louis Jordan, Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington,Django Reinhardt, Billy Halliday, Dave Brubeck, Coleman Hawkins, Chet Baker, etc.tenor sax, trumpets and Dutch elements. The figuration follows the architecture of the kitchen, a plate form encircles the central light bulb, the mauresque corner motifs hold togehter the explosion of instruments. The jazzy freedom of different tile motifs on the wall demonstrate the impact of the history of the welldressed musicians. Jazz isn't dead, it just smells funny, said Frank Zappa. The acrylic paint smells as well.
